Sparkling Apple Jam

Posted: February 2, 2014 in Uncategorized

New for 2014! Sparkling Apple will be hosting the Freakrock Jam at the Point Pub in Port Moody on Wednesday, February 5th., and all jammers and fans are invited to attend — admission is absolutely FREE! At the outset, we must advise you that Art the Fart the Heavy Metal Kid will be unable to attend this event due to the fact that he is undergoing solar rehabilitation in sunnier climes, but in his place we have deputized two worthy substitutes. For this jam, Kevin Stuart Swain will be playing lead guitar, and we will be joined on bass by former Idle Eyes bassist, Larry Pardue. On the songs where the inimitable Captain Maniac is out front doing lead vocals in his unique song stylings, the amazing Kelly Stodola will be on lead drums. Join us, won’t you, for a wild midweek party in Downtown Port Moody!

New Year’s Eve update

Posted: December 6, 2013 in Gigs, Uncategorized

New Year’s Eve is almost upon us, so we thought we’d give you an update on what’s going on in our pathetic lives!

First and foremost, this event will be dedicated to the memory of our old friend, Joe Staples. Prior to his passing, Joe was the lead vocalist and bass player for the classic rock band House Party from North Vancouver, BC. Earlier this year, Joe had arranged for House Party and Sparkling Apple to perform at Donegal’s Irish House in Surrey for the annual New Year’s celebration there, and big plans were underway for this festive occasion/bash. However, things definitely went disastrously sideways this summer when Joe was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Joe spent a considerable length of time in Lion’s Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, and tragically spent his remaining days in the nearby hospice. Sadly, he died on on November 24, 2013 with friends and family by his side – but is forever in our hearts.

The show must go on, as they say, so the New Year’s show at Donegal’s has NOT been cancelled. House Party will perform without their leader, and Sparkling Apple will be rockin’ as usual. Joe would have wanted it that way.

While we have your undivided attention… if you’d like to be a part of this uproarious and celebratory gathering, do yourself (and us, of course) a huge favour by joining us on December 31st, 2013 for a New Year’s Party Like No Other. As of this writing, a few wristbands are still available for the low low price of $25.00 each (which includes appies, champagne and TWO incredible rockin’ bands). Get yours from your jovial hosts, Rosielynn Crosby (604-588-8548) or Colin Hartridge at if you’re friends of Kevin Stuart Swain and Lisa Freakrock, luck is on your side because they have a few wristbands for sale as well.

This one’s for you, Joe.

“And, in the end.. The love you take is equal to the love you make.”

We made it through another one!

Due to the superhuman sales effort by our T-Shirt Girl From Hell (namely Joan Roe), we wish to take this opportunity to let you know: our t-shirts are nearly SOLD OUT! Many thanks to everyone who bought a Sparkling Apple Steel Wheelchairs Rehab Tour 2012 t-shirt at the CD release party, and judging by the appearance of the crowd, many of you helped us out by purchasing this coveted rock & roll garment. Good on you all!

We need to let you know that pretty much all men’s sizes have been sold, with the exception of some XXL (for beefy endomorphs like myself). The shirts remaining at this time are the “Girlie Sizes”, as Joan so appropriately puts it. If, therefore, you are of the female persuasion, we still have several shirts of women’s sizes. Bear in mind, however (and thanks to Rosie for pointing this out), that you should order a size or two bigger than usual, owing to the fact that the ladies’ sizes are on the tight side (just fine if you wish to flaunt “the girls”!). If we have sufficient response to this amazing offer, we will reorder a second batch of t-shirts and offer them on our website.

If you would like a commemorative Sparkling Apple Steel Wheelchairs Rehab Tour 2012 t-shirt, for the low low price of only $20, please contact me (Captain Maniac) by clicking the Contact at the very top of this page.  I could even be persuaded to deliver the shirt right to your door if you live nearby (and have a few brewskis ready & waiting).

One of our “girlie size” t-shirts. Glenn Kyllonen looks amused!

And while we’re in Flog mode (get those CDs and t-shirts out the door, because they won’t be here tomorrow!!), we must mention:

To purchase your very own copy of Sparkling Apple’s latest and greatest CD, Hard Core Apple, Canadians may click on the button below — this will transport you, through the magic of the Internet, to the PayPal e-commerce site in San Jose, California! Your order will be processed and yours truly will ship out a CD in a plain brown wrapper. Only $10 and worth every damned penny, if you ask me (and you didn’t). For you USA and Euro people (or for that matter, anywhere else on the planet) head to the Official Sparkling Apple website, where the appropriate links and feisty ESL operators are standing by. “What do I have to do to get you to drive away with one of THESE babies?”

How do you leave a comment on the blog? We keep telling you folks that if you’ve got something to say or dispute, then definitely let us know about it. But, leaving a comment here might be more daunting than first expected, unless you know the drill:

In the blog post you wish to comment on, just click on the red number on the top right, the one that’s enclosed in a “dialog balloon”. That will open up a new window, and at the bottom there’s a space where you can “leave a reply”, as it says. Get it? Got it? Good!
